Make Earth Hour Obsolete!

“I can’t understand why there aren’t rings of young people blocking bulldozers and preventing them from constructing coal-fired power plants.” - Al Gore

Sound reasoning and good science makes a strong case in saying that switching off our lights for an hour once a year is not enough to respond to an environmental crisis as huge as climate change. But it does serve the purpose of getting the message out there, and since 2004 Earth Hour has done a good job at communicating the need to take action. However, we believe that we need to get past that complacent mindset that we need to simply switch-off as history and recent impacts of extreme weather events has rendered it imperative for us to go beyond token actions, with utmost urgency.

SWITCHING-OFF IS A GOOD START. BUT SHUTTING DOWN COAL PLANTS, SAVING ANCIENT FORESTS AND MASSIVE UPTAKE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY IS WHAT COULD TURN THE TIDE IN THE GLOBAL STRUGGLE TO SAVE THE CLIMATE.
