This is a call to action

There has been lots of talk about the Occupy Wall Street protests that began over a month ago. Here in the Philippines there has been noble efforts by various groups and individuals working in solidarity with those occupying Wall Street as well as with the growing global movement that are against corporate control over policies that affect the mechanisms of the state.

We are here to announce that we stand with those efforts.

However, we believe that in as far as the context of the Philippines is concerned it might be more meaningful and more strategic if our efforts to stand in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement be done by targeting institutions, business entities, corporations and government offices that most of us share a common cause. We must not be content with occupying parks on weekends. As activists we must reclaim the fact that revolutions do not recognize 'free time' because the future that we hope to usher in compels us to make its realization an affair that is 24/7. Furthermore, we call upon organized groups no to longer be content with symbolic protests actions as the issues that lie at heart in the Occupy Wall Street Movement are things that are happening in the here and now thus the need for us to work on doing concrete actions on areas where injustice is rampant.
Thus we must make good in targeted occupations on corporations like the Philippine Airlines run by the crook Lucio Tan or target institutions like the Department of Justice which has become a willing collaborator with the miscarriage of justice here in the Philippines. Note that above are just samples of what can be done to polarize the debate and consolidate a concerted effort from groups and individuals who believe that action should be done for all of us to reclaim democracy and to challenge the chokehold of corporate consumerism that lulls each of us to be content with business-as-usual.

Let us translate our collective sentiments into actions. Organize. Occupy. Challenge the status quo by joining us in creating your own campaign and connecting it with the global movement. Get off Facebook and join protests. Initiate direct actions that target actual corporate entities. Refuse to be content with rallies. It is our imperative to seize the space to make our voices be heard beyond the usual saturated channels that has rendered our activism irrelevant.

Remember: Actions speak louder than words!
